New year, new ventures

Lots of people have asked me if I'm working on a second novel. The easy answer is yes, but the real story behind the story is it's hard. Really hard.

I've had a lot, and I mean a LOT, of things going on in 2023, carrying into 2024. We sold our home of 35 years and look forward to being in our new home in February. Thanks to my sister, Deb, we have had a place to live in this long interim. We welcomed our first grandchild, Cooper Perry Johnson, and that, dear friends, is a game-changer in life. In 2024, our daughter Ashley will be married, and we cannot wait for the celebrations to begin.

It's all good stuff - but it's also a lot of balls in the air. And I am not a skilled juggler. It's all a bit emotionally exhausting for me, so that's my excuse for not being more productive on my 2nd novel. I am writing....there's the short story, Réveillon, which is available here, and I'm back to writing for L/A Metro magazine. But creating a novel is another animal entirely. For me, I have to live in my characters' heads. And quite honestly, I don't have the mental capacity to add that in just yet. So, my cast of characters is patiently waiting for me to revisit them.

In the meantime, I'm working with my publisher in February to get The Toll Road North available on Kindle. I'm also working with my daughter, Carolyne, to record The Toll Road North for Audible.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of you asking for a second novel. It really is gratifying as an author to know you want to read more.
